Jumploon

Domains & DNS

Before you can send from you@acme.com, you must prove you control acme.com. You do that by publishing a DKIM record that Jumploon generates for you. Mailbox providers also look for SPF and DMARC, so publish those too.

Add a domain

In the dashboard, open Domains and click Add domain. Through the API:

curl https://api.jumploon.com/domains \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $JUMPLOON_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "name": "acme.com" }'

The response lists the records to publish.

The records

RecordTypeWhy
<selector>._domainkey.acme.comTXTDKIM. Jumploon signs every message with a key unique to your domain. Sending is blocked until this record verifies.
acme.comTXTSPF. Lists the servers allowed to send for your domain. A domain can have only one SPF record, so merge ours into yours if you already have one.
_dmarc.acme.comTXTDMARC. Tells mailbox providers what to do with mail that fails authentication. Start with p=none and tighten it once your reports look clean.

Each domain gets a random DKIM selector, such as m1a2b3c4d. The DKIM value is long; most DNS providers split it into several strings automatically, which is fine.

Copy the exact values from the dashboard. They're specific to your domain.

Verify

Click Verify in the dashboard, or:

curl -X POST https://api.jumploon.com/domains/<domain id>/verify \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $JUMPLOON_API_KEY"

DNS changes can take a few minutes to an hour to spread. You don't have to keep clicking: Jumploon re-checks unverified domains every 15 minutes for a week, and re-checks verified domains daily. If a verified domain's DKIM record disappears, you'll see it on the domain's health view.

A domain can be verified by only one Jumploon account at a time.

Domain health

GET /v3/domains/:domain/health (and the Health tab in the dashboard) shows the current state of each record and recent delivery results for the domain, so you can spot a broken SPF record or a rising bounce rate early.

Custom tracking domain

Open and click tracking links point at Jumploon's host by default. To use your own, such as links.acme.com:

  1. Add a CNAME record from links.acme.com to the host shown in the dashboard.
  2. Set it as the domain's tracking host:
curl -X PATCH https://api.jumploon.com/v3/domains/acme.com \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $JUMPLOON_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{ "tracking_host": "links.acme.com" }'

Once the CNAME verifies, tracked links use your host, and Jumploon issues its TLS certificate automatically.

Receiving mail

A domain can also receive email. See Inbound email.

Test your setup

After verifying, send a message to mail-tester.com to check your authentication and spam score.
