Open & click tracking
Jumploon can tell you when a recipient opens an email or clicks a link, and it can add an unsubscribe link for you.
- Open tracking adds a tiny invisible image. When the recipient's mail app loads it, an
openevent is recorded. - Click tracking rewrites links to pass through Jumploon, records a
click, then redirects to the original URL. - Subscription tracking adds an unsubscribe link and the
List-Unsubscribeheaders.
Opens are approximate. Apple Mail Privacy Protection loads images for every message, and some apps block images entirely. Treat clicks as the more reliable signal.
Turn tracking on
REST API: set it per domain.
curl -X PATCH https://api.jumploon.com/domains/<domain id> \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $JUMPLOON_API_KEY" -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{ "open_tracking": true, "click_tracking": true }'v3 API: set it per request.
"tracking_settings": {
"open_tracking": { "enable": true },
"click_tracking": { "enable": true },
"subscription_tracking": { "enable": true }
}To leave one link untracked, add clicktracking=off to its tag: <a clicktracking=off href="…">.
Unsubscribe links
Subscription tracking adds a footer with an unsubscribe link. Customize it with html and text, where <% label %> becomes the link, or put the link anywhere with substitution_tag.
It also adds List-Unsubscribe and List-Unsubscribe-Post headers (RFC 8058), covered by the DKIM signature. Gmail and Yahoo show an Unsubscribe button for them and require them for bulk senders.
When someone unsubscribes, their address is added to your suppressions and an unsubscribe event is sent.
Leave subscription tracking off for transactional mail such as password resets and receipts. People can't meaningfully unsubscribe from those.
Use your own tracking domain
Tracked links point at Jumploon's host unless you set a custom tracking domain such as links.acme.com. Using your own domain looks more trustworthy and keeps link reputation tied to you.
